What is Kizomba?

You have probably heard of Kizomba? Have you heard people tapping their feet to a new beautiful rhythm? Yes, that is Kizomba. A dance characterized by a slower and usually romantic rhythm style from Angola. Yes, Angola in Africa.

The dance was born in the late 70s and it is a mix of Haitian Kompa & African Rhythm. It is common to find that most Kizomba songs are in Portuguese. It has large influences from the traditional dances from Angola, Semba, and Cape Verde Passada. Kizomba has grown in popularity in the Portuguese speaking African countries (And Portugal itself)

“It is danced accompanied by a partner, very smoothly, slowly and sensuously, and with neither tightness nor rigidity. There are frequent simultaneous hip rotations coordinated between dance partners, particularly in the quieter refrains of the music.”
